Does anyone know of a source for an old style fuel shut off valve. Mine binds so badly that it cannot be turned with the red knob. The tapered seat has minor wear showing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bill,

I might have a spare shut-off valve but I'm not sure if it's any better than what you have. I'll grab it the next time I head to the storage unit.

Surely there is a way to successfully re-lap these old things? I have never been 100% successful, but I suspect that the right cutting compound and some EZ Turn grease would make it leak proof? Most Cubs are going to the ball type.

i read there's an o-ring in there to replace and that some Fuel Lube helps but I haven't tried it so there's no guarantees. i can at least see if the one I have shows any signs of wear, if not, it might be a good candidate for a new o-ring

Bill, can you post photos of yours as it looks disassembled and the wear that you're describing in the first post?

Ill get a picture. It looks like the one on the right. The damage is very minor but the problem is that I cannot turn the knob to turn it on or off.

is this an older Citabria or pre-Citabria airframe? It doesn't look wrong, it just looks different than what was standard in Champion and Bellanca airframes. the bracket holding the valve looks factory, just not what would be there for a vertically mounted valve. Maybe someone else with an older Aeronca airframe or earlier Citabria could take a pic of what they have and post it here.

it looks about right with the manifold attached to the valve, the two lines in from the tanks and the larger line in from the rear manifold.

I see what you're saying, there shouldn't be an aluminum plate to anchor the valve to the frame, it should bolt directly to it with the integral mounting tabs. there are usually a few of the original brass Imperial valves on ebay but I don't see any at the moment. i sold the extra one I had.

is that valve leaking or is an A&P questioning it?
