Product looks like the pictures above. My friend owns the Avionics shop so I worked under his supervision.
Garmin is the same way about being installed by the dealer, but it's for warranty purposes not about making a legal installation.

Saw those pics and they were very helpful, still on the fence.
I should have been more specific, I was curious how the charger install looked. I rarely use my stratus (first version) or IPad, but if installing that system for a few more bucks I figure it would be good to add the ADSB in for longer flights and have a charger for the iPad. Thanks for the play by play.

Rick, I believe you can still do your own installation, as long as your IA agrees with the plan. Not using an Appareo dealer MIGHT cause warranty issues (check with Appareo to be sure. But since it IS a transponder, I believe you will still need to have a certified avionics shop perform the required biennial transponder check (few A&P/IAs are certified for this and have the calibrated equipment), but that's a nit in the overall scheme of things.

Ah the charge port, sorry. That install went quite well. I was fortunate that I had a pair of power leads from my avionics master because the Narco radio used two + and - wires. The hardest part was crimping the tiny Molex connector pins. It would be cake with the correct crimper but I didn't have it and didn't see the economy in buying a $150 pair of crimpers for one job.

The kit came with an extra pair of pins so I decided to try my luck carefully squeezing the terminals to the wires with what I had. I tried one on a scrap of wire and it came out just like they're supposed to, so I went to the wires in the plane. They were tight and look just like proper crimps. Heat shrink, push the pins into the connector and it was done.

I'll take a picture later and post it. I located it directly underneath my Dynon D3, and then I obtained some 6" USB to USB C cords so there is no excess flopping all over the place.

I drilled through a plastic instrument blank which did not go as planned. The instant the drill touched the plastic it broke a jagged hole in the cover. While standing there cursing my luck I test fit the power receptacle bezel and it covered the jagged hole and looks fine. I've got another plastic cover which I'll do a better job on, but in the meantime it looks perfect.

Thanks for taking the time to post this. My ESGi bundle is en route for my 7EC(a). I was planning on mounting the GPS antenna behind the baggage compartment. We discussed mounting a plate on the diagonals in the baggage area. I like the simplicity of mounting it on the glareshield. Does it cause any reflections? Any surprises or anything since the installation has been completed?
Thanks, Ryan

Funny you should mention the reflection. I have had no issues on the Citabria. When I went to install the same antenna on the T-6 I was going to also put it on the glare shield.

Holy smokes, the reflection on the windshield would have been a hazard! I'm going to have to mount it outside and forward of the windshield.

Oh, and here is the pic I promised of the USB outlet, shown here with the short cable going to my Dynon D3

It's been a while since I checked in. I ordered my esgi bundle in March. It showed up about the time the rest of the world shut down for the pandemic. That's also about the time I got super busy at work. I've been making slow progress, but the end is in sight. I didn't expect to end up removing a lot of old excess wiring, and other mysteries of owning an old plane. We fabricated a GPS antenna mount to go behind the baggage area. It's clamped in place. I also ran a new avionics bus wire. We also replaced a couple of fuses with Klixon breakers. I'm also installing a new (to me) SL40 com and PSE intercom. We made a mount for the Stratus 3i box, encoder, and avionics and ground bus. It's high on the right side of the fuselage/boot cowl. New brackets for the radio and transponder tray were also made, because the existing ones had lots of holes, but nothing matched the new trays. All that's left to do is the actual wiring of the radio and com. The Appareo A&P bundle is very complete and easy to connect.

We've had some time recently to make some progress on the panel upgrade of my 7EC. It's all but done, and should be ready to fly with a couple more hours of work. I spent a lot of time wondering if the iPad mini was going to be too big. I considered an iPhone 7+/8+, and an iPod touch. Found this iPad mini as an open box item and saved nearly 50%, so that made that decision easier. The compass ended up getting relocated, Everything seems to be visible and accessible.
I'm impatiently waiting for the altimeter to return from being overhauled. The new oil pressure gauge is installed and ready to go.
