Im considering buying a 1973 Citabria that has only a little over 1000 hrs with less than 30 hrs since O/H firewall forward. Always hangered in dry climate and owned by a couple different older guys as their runaround airplane. Very original with just lap belts and Garmin com as only addition. Fabric, paint and interior look great. Seems to me only concern would be original wood spars and fabric. Only a few additional inspection holes to get by spar inspection yet I doubt it has ever done any aerobatics. How concerning is 50 year old Citabria spars under these conditions? Also unsure even what type of fabric, coatings and paint on 73 model? Unsure about 50 year old covering even if it’s looks great and don’t want to get into a recovering job. I’m looking for some advice here. Les

Always hangared in dry climate? Sounds like a new airplane to me. Paint does deteriorate, but you can look at it and tell if it is ok. The rest will be like it left the factory.

My Cub fabric is 50 years old, and is starting to show its age. Probably 4,000 hours on it, and 15 years outside. Not particularly dry around here. I have no problem flying it every day.
