Great join the party, your the closest one to me so far what’s the closest airport to you? Mine is TN98 if your close enough we might get together and trade stories. Post some picture please
My plane is in Ridgeway, VA. That's about 7 miles east of Martinsville, VA. I have a question for anyone who is restoring and recovering a citabria or anything with wooden bulkheads. I'm just replacing one that has a twist, but I want to put a varnish or some other protective finish on all of them before I cover it. What product do you recommend? Spar Varnish? Polyurethane? Other?
On my 79 ECA I could re use some of the bulkheads but on close inspection the wood is splintering from age so I chose to replace them all.i was considering the cost vs labor of having to redo later, yours may be in great condition just a suggestion, as with any project each time something comes off I think wile I’m hear I should do this! Like my head liner it looks good but wile I’m this far ya know what I mean.
I did the same thing on headliner. Mine was pretty good, but I knew once I have everything back together, I'd look at it and wish I'd done it.... so out came the screwdriver and knife. I lucked out with Aircraft Spruce and they had one in stock for a greenhouse citabria in Atlanta and I hope I'm not having to wait 30 days to get one made.
Im sure someone must have discovered this before I did, but I was able to straighten badly warped bulkheads by running my clothing steamer over them. It took about 20 minutes each. Thought I would just pass it along.
