On our 7KCAB, 20 minutes into a flight the ammeter shows a discharge. Cycle the master and all is OK for a minute or so. Again cycle the master off and it may stay positive for another 10-20 minutes then do it again. All the connections have been inspected. Alternator was removed and tested OK. Suggestions? Ideas?

I'm thinking voltage regulator. The over voltage relay was bypassed on a test flight and it still did it.

Zeftronics has an excellent test sequence on line. Get a good VOM and follow tnstructions. Easy.

Sometimes the cheapest way is to order the Plane & Pilot kit and put it in. I did that, and no problems since. I also installed a field switch. Really do need a checklist item for that.

Sorry. Memory isn't what it used to be.

By the way - fixed an alternator problem today! Hardly lifted a finger. Buddy said alternator wasn't working. I told him to give each wire on the regulator a little tug.
One broken wire fixed, and the alternator worked again. All I did was bring tools and a terminal lug. Wish they were all that easy.

Sometimes you get lucky. Good fix. I like simple fixes. :)

Ah, Plane Power. Good outfit. Looks like our mercury switch might be the culprit. In two flight hours no issues with the mercury switch bypassed.
