Just wondering what the numbers before the year represent. My Bellanca Decathlon Std is 511-79 so it was made in 1979 but is the first number sequential for all Bellanca aircraft manufactured or just 8KCAB's?

Here's the list of serial numbers from the TCDS

Thanks

Bart, mine is 76-73 so was built in 73 and would assume it was sequenced as number 76 of a batch.

Just to revisit the recent subject of IFR, whilst reviewing my original factory application for certification (from the disc faa records will sell you), I see in section III. C. "Aircraft Operation and Maintenence Records" the box titled "Check If Records in Compliance with FAR 91.173, is checked. Interesting, no?

Further, Note 1. of the TCDS says current W&B report together with list of equipment included in certificated empty weight must be provided at time of original certification. No mention of continuing to carry it. Shame that all docs were not submitted and copied originally as they are these days.

I saw that mention of the equipment list that you referred to and was wondering what an original document would look like.

91.173 doesn't seem relevant, maybe the regs were reordered at some point making that reference inaccurate now?

I could ask Dale over on FB 🤢

Serial number is sequential for all variants of 8KCAB's from the start of production starting at 001 so there were 576 8KCAB's built before Bellanca ceased operation.
