8KCAB Boot cowl vent hinge

Looks like some kind of plastic sheet riveted to the aluminum strips. Starting to crack after 45 years. Anyone know what the material is?

I have no idea but it's current spec so Chad should have a bin full of them. Just make sure you put a washer under the formed head of the pop rivets like in the pic so the plastic doesn't crack from the stress.
 
If the hinge is steel and it's riveted to the aluminum boot cowl the spacer may be there to keep corrosion at bay.
Steel + aluminum + water = corrosion.

I'd be tempted to use a scrap piece of reinforced baffle material. but I have a box of remnants of that so....
 
Ed, how about a new thread with photos of the parts disassembled and then some that show the reassembly for future reference. Thanks!
