Are all wheel pants from the early generation Citabria and Decathlon aircraft open on the bottom aft of the wheel? I bought a set recently from a late 70's Decathlon and they might not have ever been mounted but I never knew the bottoms are open. Thanks!

They sort of have screw-in bottoms. I will look tomorrow; mine are off the aircraft. They look great, but airing things up then gets put off . . .

Are you talking about the big canoes? Mine are on my hangar wall. I'll take a look but I don't recall anything more than the hole for the 6x6 tires.

I forgot the camera, but yes, the canoe is open all the way back. Mine has a gray insert, held with three machine screws on each side. I also have a "speed kit" which closes up the front with a stylish "vent" in front of the tire. I think the back is needed for strength.

Not what I recalled at all. Mine have no provision for a filler panel.

Back on the wall. I wish my cowl was still in this good condition.

Guess I better remember the camera tomorrow. Maybe the rear part is also "speed kit". I will check the Citabria too - it is a 2003 model GCAA. Won't be able to get photos of them - owner won't take them off! I have been after him - really helps preflight on a club airplane.

Forgot the camera again. Mind like a sieve. However I brought one home. The Greek loves that (get that filthy thing out of my kitchen!). It has the rear molding attached with 8-32 screws and Tinnerman nuts.

The 2003 Citabria pants are one piece, and closed in the back. They do not snuggle up to the tires - I bet there is a lot of burbling at the tire/pant gap.

Standby . . .

Here we go. The Greek actually said "Here - put it on the table. That's easier." You never know . . .image.webpimage.webpimage.webp

Seller said they were from a mid to late 70's Decathlon, I think they have a lot of hangar rash but are zero time.
