Was inside the lower boot cowl cleaning and sanding the paint, figured I'd post a few pics in case anyone was wondering what's in there.

The gear legs bolt to the "gear truss" which is the structural member in the frame that carries most of the loads from landing. It is appropriately stout.

Inner gear mounting bolts, gear legs are separate from each other.

And a shot under the floorboards where the front pilot's feet would be. Master brake cylinders are visible (they lay on their sides parallel to the floor boards) as is the front of the controls torque tube that the control sticks pivot on (making roll action happen) and which connects the front and rear controls.

and yes, my master cylinders are leaking! That's why I was in there cleaning so I could keep getting everything ready for paint! lol

I see you still have the old school U-bolts on the outboard end. Are you changing those out?

Thanks for the pictures. It would appear I could access the brake reservoirs (a generous description) by just pulling the carpet back.

I wish mine had those underfloor cylinders. Easy maintenance, and heel brakes! I am going to look for vestigial mounts in there.

Yeah, get the bars. I think you can use less expensive AN bolts out there. You already have the NAS bolts in the inboard mounts, which is a must. Opinion.

Yes, I believe that's true about the reservoirs.

The previous owner replace the original u-bolts witht the new bar-style gear hardware so we're all good there.

Thanks for these pictures. I know this is an old post. Wondering how to get the panel off the bottom for easier viewing and maintenance?

for sure a area on the citabria that deserves attention

This poor citabria had this happen not after a hard landing, but thankfully just on taxi out from the ramp
