Citabria Seaplane Takeoff

What flat top floats fit the citabria?

Thats a very good question!
It’s has a special certificate of airworthiness, so it’s an experimental, effectively, and the airframe had a bunch of additional mounting brackets welded in to mate to these floats. I believe they’re PK1800s but they don’t have any data plates on them. It’s definitely over-floated but I love the way these floats ride

Hmm, I have peekay 1800s on my 7GCB, and they’re not flat top. My 7bcm had Edo 1320 flat tops , but they are way too small for that. EDO 2425s are flat, but they would be a bit too big.

I know the rudders seems to be edo-style….
They could even Be something like a 2425. Loaded at gross they still sit 6” out of the water… 🤷‍♂️

But I think all flat top Edo models had round cast aluminum hatch covers.

it’s definitely a mystery…. Some have thought they might be Bauman’s?
Either way I love them, you can land on a desolate lake, toss out an anchor and sit comfortably on them and fish or lay and get a tan

cool video, thanks for posting it!
My pleasure, I have many, many more hours of footage, but no time, or skill to edit it together into anything too watchable. But I see now you can upload 360 directly and manipulate it in the YouTube player, so, maybe I'll post a couple more.

Nice, I have 7eca O235. Gives me some hope with floats. We have a cabin on a smaller lake here in AK so I may need to go with O320.

If the temps are in the 50s or 60s it’s really not bad by yourself….
And the fuel burn is fantastic!

When it’s warm out tho the takeoff run in calm conditions at max gross can be 1/2mile+ and the climb can be under 200fpm, and the engine runs sooo warm, it’s easy to over temp it in a climb due to the low airspeeds. New baffle seals and a remote mount oil filter have helped a bit, but that 235 is a real workhorse of a little engine.
