Citabria Tailwheel Ski

Howdy,

Been flying the wings off my 7ECA from my home field, and now looking forward for some Ski Flying this winter. Not sure if my under powered 7ECA will be able to get in and out without worry.

I am going to install a Wheel Penetrating Tailwheel Ski, and want some advice on what brand are folks using, etc. Have Federal 2000A straight skis, and have been told that my Citabria being so tail heavy, that a tailwheel ski will shorten my take off greatly.

Anyone have any input?

Depending on snow conditions it may have a hard time getting out. unless its shear ice, you'd have no problem getting in.

Burls makes probably the best tail ski right now. But any tail ski will be an improvement. I flew a few years with a 7eca with federal 2500 skis.

I do plan on rolling the landing area, and will try it on the lake first before I commit to my airstrip. Light snow, or rolled snow should be fine. It should be fun to play around on skis. I did hear that the under powered 7ECA does NOT like wheel penetrating skis. Just too much drag and weight.

I read that there were TrickAir and Burls. Both have tail skis for this application.

I did land at a Ski Plan Fly In, over in western Maine last winter. The snow was about a foot deep, but they rolled it and the Snowmobile Club groomed 1000ft for me. It landed great and got off easily. Cold air and hard surface. Had 22 inch tall 8:50x6 tires (6 ply).

Like they say, Keep it simple and keep it lite !!!
