Citabria Wing Root Vents?

No - I made a tube out of fiberglas and attached a metal version that rotates to open, and aimed it at my nose. Really nice to have after a slow roll session.

Funny you should say that Bob! I never realized how short on ventilation my cabin is until after those spins last week!

Got confirmation today that they're Citabria parts. There's a plastic molded fitting that attaches to the leading edge with a piece of scat tubing between the leading edge piece the these wing root fixtures. There's a hole in the nose section of the root rib that the tubing passes through.

Now, to find those leading edge pieces. Being plastic, and out of production, odds are slim of finding them but they can probably be reproduced in aluminum with the aid of tig welding. Would that be in the spirit of the FAA's rules allowing manufacture of parts for old planes?

Why not a fiberglas layup? I did the tube from the wing root to my eyeball vent with glass cloth and resin over those tube left over from toilet paper rolls.

I guess if you are good at tig, the aluminum would be easier. And I'd call it a minor alteration.

I was thinking about both of those options. There's a radiator shop that can tig it for me if I make the parts or I can do it in fiberglas myself. If I do it I'll post pics. Based on how rare those fixtures in the first pic are, maybe they're destined for ebay. :)

You've got a picture - and it's made out of plastic. Looks like a perfect option for a local 3D printer. It's not a structural part - and if you're going to have to fabricate it anyway - the whole scanning and 3D Printing process would at least ensure a perfect copy. Just an idea. Probably the first thing I'd look at, but then again I've been wrong before.
