Just signed up today, but I've been around the Champs & Citabrias for some time. Got my commerical SEL in a 7EC back in 1962. I'm looking at 8KCAB that has several nails backed out. Would like to find a pair of good wood wings--I have no problems with wood wing aircraft. I know the thing seems that many are going to the aluminum spars. I can't afford that $40k. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you familiar with Rainbow Air Services? Ron is an expert on the wood wings and he is close to you.
 
Did you happen to find those wings that were in Houston? I would like to find a pair that are good, but maybe someone took off for a factory set. Getting too old to rebuiid a set???
 
I wish I had better news for you Rich but I can't find the guy's contact info. The wings are in Houston, the guy is in Georgia, he bought the plane from a guy that put metal spar wings on for no apparent reason so the wood wings were left behind but he still has to go pick them up.

Let me see if I can figure it out He called me and it was a couple of weeks ago but I'll try asking around. If you post a wanted ad on barnstormers he'll probably call you.
 
There for a while the factory would not sell metal spar wings outright. They wanted to destroy all the wood spar wings. Rumor, not fact.
 
That's not true anymore. Guess it was costing too much to send them back. The new ones use all new parts. Getting close to $40k if you have them to paint & ship. I'm just looking @ one that has some wing issues.
 
Not getting any response from the Barnstormer's ad?? Wish I could find those wing in Houston--that is what I was hoping for--someone who had just removed the wood wings for the aluminum spars. Haven't made any deals on a Decathalon yet???
 
Haven't gotten any response for the 8KCAB wood wings on Barnstormers. Got to be a good pair around somewhere--someone that went to factory new ones???
