Just bought a 1975 8KCAB. There has been several owners, and somewhere the door key has been lost. Not sure how to get one. Anyone been down this road?

Yes. The door comes right off. Put it in your passenger seat and drive to the nearest locksmith. They can make a key in about ten minutes.

Or just try your buddies' keys. Every third one works on Cessnas - probably easier on Bellancas.

Might be worth a quick call to Chad at ACA to see if they have a standard pattern. Could be the same key works in every plane. :ROFLMAO:

Worth getting to know Chad anyways. He'll be your best friend for a while.

The rest of the story...

There was a number inscribed on the lock. Barely legible, etched with an electric scriber. I searched online for a key matching what I had interpreted, and placed an order with a vendor. Turns out my lock matched an office cabinet lock. Now I have keys!
