Fabric and paint

I need to make a small repair on the fabric and also repaint the wheel pants. My question is what kind of fabric system was used on late model 2001 Decathlons? Thanks for any help.
 
Cool. I am down in Plant City, between Lakeland and Tampa. Have you found a good local A&P/IA who knows these airplanes? I am still looking.

ACA never responds to my emails, but if you call (800) 223-9381 the operator will connect you with the parts or tech support guys.
 
For what it's worth, Stewart Systems can be used to make repairs where other paint systems were originally used. Matching the colors would require some coordination with Stewart's customer service people but they're super helpful and the products work great. You would probably want to get their input for feathering the color coats back into the original paint. That detail might be the only good reason to do repairs with the original paint system components. :)

I've had the same experience with ACA. Crickets on e-mail inquiries, but good real person responses to phone calls.

My major beef is that the parts sales guy tends to leave out details. For example, I ordered a set of 4 seat pins to make the rear seat quicker and tool free to remove. He was happy to sell me a set, but didn't mention they didn't have them in stock and would not be making any for several months. I ordered them last spring and finally got them last week.

As I recall they were about $27.50 each, and around $125 with tax and shipping.

When I called and asked about quick release pins for the "seats", the ACA person said, "You mean the quick release pins for the rear seat?" I took that to mean they are only intended for the rear seat.

However, my front and rear seats are identical and interchangeable, and I don't see any reason why the pins would not work for the front seat as well. In fact, the front seat pins won't be competing for space with the covers for the cables that are adjacent to the front set of pins in the rear seat.

The pins are pretty straight forward. A short pin welded to a ring with a hole near the end of the pin for a stainless hairpin key, and a cable to keep the key from wandering off. For $27.50 each I really was expecting a detent ball push button quick release pin, but this is still a lot better than bolts and nyloc nuts.

Why does that sound a bit like an AN clevis pin? I agree - a push button pin would be more appropriate for thirty bucks.
 
I hear what you guys are saying but I'm thinking you want to preflight those pins, especially if you're heading out to do acro since you wouldn't want a loose one to find its way under the floorboards jamming a control. So maybe the big red rings are to see that they're there and secure?
 
The quick removable seat pins require another lug welded to the frame (the pins are installed in double shear) - the four additional lugs are usually Scout only items.
