Those of you with Hartzell props be aware that due to the Shell plant explosion and fire last June the supply of Areoshell #6 & #5 has been curtailed, possibly for good. If you have either of these greases take care of them. As they were the ONLY products approved to service the props on the Constant Speed Citabras and Decathlons prior to the MT's introduction they cannot be replaced (legally) by anything else in the field. Hartzell had announced prior to the fire it was switching to a new grease for all new and repaired props called NYCO GN3058 (made in France) which is a synthetic white grease mandated by the EU...fossil fuels being bad for the planet and all.
Here's the problem; according to Hartzell the two greases cannot be used interchangeably or mixed in any way. Per their SL HCSL-61-366 the props using the old grease must be overhauled/resealed at a prop shop to remove all traces of the old type grease. There is no way to accomplish this in the field. Save yer pennies guys...prop shops ain't cheap.🤬🤑🤬

chris, funny you mention this, i just got off the phone with East Coast Propeller. they were saying Shell changed their formulation and the grease wasn't holding up and causing leaks so Hartzell went to this new grease and it's working out well. he didn't mention the compatability problem.

Just got mine resealed a few weeks ago. I wonder what the prop shop used?
If it has a yellow sticker on the hub it has the new grease. I'm sure it's the new stuff, they follow rules and regulations pretty closely and Hartzell did this changeover last year. Very quietly.
I'm hoping someone in the US starts producing this grease...otherwise our maintenance choices will be dictated by other Countries...
Like so much other stuff now a daze...
