I recently bought a Decathlon 8KCAB
And I wonder if I should replace the piece of foam that was installed in the air intake instead of the air intake assembly?
Thanks!

Welcome! Let's see a picture of your plane.

What year is your 8KCAB? My '78 has a Bracket air filter. Bracket is the brand. Just the foam gets replaced. Comes in a special sealed pouch because it is coated with some special goop.

It’s a 1973 Thanks! I ll check the Bracket air filter. Mine has this piece of foam. Thanks F721B69B-ABE2-4AF1-B456-A11BED3E745A.webp

Beautiful plane!

A quick check of the parts catalog shows that the bracket air filter did not start until 1974. Your aircraft uses filter element CA-121PL, which is a Fram automotive air filter. See attached.

I am also looking for the small bracket or hinge that attaches the pilot side window to the wing. Any ideas as where I can find this part?CBA42558-9349-41C7-9BAB-F5F3208FA60C.webp

First step is always Chad at the factory. If no luck there, try Spruce, Wag Aero, Univair, Ebay, etc.

Are you sure you are supposed to have a bracket there? That is common on Citabrias and Champs. However, every Decathlon I have seen has a hinged brace at the lower front edge of the window to limit how far it opens. Max speed with the window open is well below typical Decathlon speeds.

Mine doesn’t have a brace in the window, and it does have a bracket in the wing. May be its broken.

Interesting. Your aircraft will probably have lots of unique attributes, being the first year. Parts catalog looks like they changed a lot of details from 73 to 75.

Glad to hear that. I thought it was an improvised filter! Excuse my ignorance…
