I started flying back in highschool back in the early 90s in a 7-ECA based out of KTOA here in Southern California. Did my first 30hrs, and first two solos, in that plane and felt very lucky to get to do it. My dad helped out with the lessons, himself having learned in a Champ back in the 1950s thanks to my grandad, a WWII primary flight instructor and C-47 pilot for the US Army Air Corps.
Anyways, after a 30 year delay, earlier this year I finally finished my PPL at KSBA, and am now getting my tailwheel endorsement in a 7-ECA and 7-GCBC, and doing EMT/UPRT training in a 7-KCAB, down the road at KSZP with the great folks at CP Aviation. (I missed the April 15, 1991 cutoff for not needing an endorsement by literally one month)
I can't exaggerate how good it feels to be back in a Citabria, and to finally get to fly a Decathlon! These are pretty much my favorite planes, and getting to wear a parachute and do basic aerobatics as part of the EMT/UPRT training has been a total dream come true.
Hope to finish my tailwheel endorsement this weekend or next, and after that, I'm going to finish my instrument and commercial ratings and become a part-time CFI. With any luck, my personal journey will eventually include ownership of a Citabria and/or Decathlon. I feel like I've found the right place to help navigate that course!
