2020 was so bad that it felt like 2021 couldn't shake that same funk! So let's just give 2021 an early arrivederchi and start letting some momentum build for 2022! :yesss:

What are your plans? Planes? Trips? Contests? Who is going to get their first flight with you next year?

Have a bucket list item you're finally going to tackle?

Don't be shy, everyone's got that something something of an idea...........here's your chance to throw it out there, run it up the flagpole, give it some air in the town square, throw it against the wall to see if it sticks! Who wants to go first? @Bob Turner ??

2020 and 2021 were fantastic years for my bucket list. In 2020 I bought my first airplane. In 2021, I learned to work on my plane, flew 150+ hours, visited 12 new states by air, went to Oshkosh, went airplane camping, crossed the Mississippi, took my first >1000mi XC trip, and restarted acro after 14 years. In 2 weeks I will restart my IAC activity with my first contest in 15 years.

In 2022 I would like to compete in at least 3 contests, and place in the top 3 at least once. Ideally I would like to position myself to compete in the Nationals in 2023, with participation in 2022 being an outside chance. I would also like to continue to upgrade my aircraft.

I am hoping for another year just like this, except looking forward to hugging all the girls again.
Trying not to be an old curmudgeon - hoping I do not make some untoward comment about folks making a living on gofundme. So far, semi-successful.

Glad to hear someone's been doing better than just getting by the last couple of years! Thanks for being a good sport Ed!

Realistic goals Bob, very important in living a happy life! :)

As for me, I'll likely say goodbye to my beloved 7ECA in order to fund the completion of the 8KCAB project I've been chugging away on. Flying a first contest remains a high priority so the 7ECA might have to stick around long enough to check that box since the SD won't be done before September, 2022 according to what the shop at ACA is saying about their backlog.

My wife says she might be willing to start flying with me again so maybe we'll see that happen next year.

Would love to see us all meet up somewhere in 2022 whether it be via a series of regional meet-ups or one big one like Oshkosh or Sun 'n Fun.

Don't get me wrong, 2021 had some low points too, such as attending a New Years Eve super spreader wedding party and having my entire extended family get sick with COVID at once. Nothing like getting 12 texts in a row saying "Hey, I have a fever." Fortunately everyone recovered without serious complications.

My goal of making it to a contest with my 7ECA for primary didn't materialize in 2021. Had the "pleasure" of taking off all my cylinders again: I put brand new Lycoming cylinders on in 2020 - only to receive a mandatory letter from Lycoming, that they shipped the wrong pistons with the kit, and I had to replace the pistons / rings again. This set me back in late spring - but even afterwards, just didn't have that much time to practice. Watched a competition in Ocean City - missing meeting Bart by a day. My maneuvers are slowly improving and feel good about doing the primary next year, and start working on Sportsman. I did a lot of cross countries in New England and commuting between the Philly area and Boston. For both acro and cross country, I wish I had the 160 horse engine. But now with fuel prices going through the roof again - maybe not.

2022 will be the year of the 7ECA! :TU:

My buddy says she is ready to sell. 150 C/S Decathlon, 1979 but Metal Spar, Garmin 300 +txp, no ADS- B, sat ouside unflown for four years.

I know it could be flown - it was annualed routinely until two years ago.

Rough advice will be appreciated - better to license and fly it, or dump as-is? I bet the camshaft has rust. I have been told the value of Decathlons has gone up - this one sold for 40 maybe eight years ago, and was a good flyer - as fast in cruise as my 180 Dec.

I would get the annual done, get a list of squawks, and get it back to airworthy status if doable for reasonable cost. Huge difference in value and marketability. Rusty camshaft doesn't show up as problematic for a while after you start flying again, so that is the buyer's risk to price in.

How old is the fabric on the fuselage, and what shape is it in?

Everything that flies, floats, or drives has gone up in value. An airworthy 8KCAB with metal wings and serviceable fabric is worth at least 90-100K. Subtract 25K for pending engine rebuild and it should sell for at least 60-75K. That's just my guess. YMMV.

Well, one of my 2021 goals was to fly in a contest. I made it TO a contest, but it was cancelled for weather. I did get 2 practice box flights. So that goal gets deferred to 2022. Fortunately there are 3 local contests next spring, and I plan to try and enter all of them. Next goal is to place in top 3 in at least one of them.

Metal spar wing covering is factory, and in excellent shape except fading on top. Fuselage fabric is passable original with re-taping that has survived six years outside with no lifting, and a nice coat of white Aerothane. Owner is not interested in getting it flyable; has just decided to let me sell it quickly. We have a low bottom line, and I will advertise locally by word of mouth and e-mail, then we will start here and on J3 Cub forum, and finally Barnstormers. Bring cash and a trailer, I guess. She offered it to me, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, and have maybe one Cub restoration left in my soul. A Decathlon is just a step too far.

That will be a great find for someone, then.

I recommend you post it on the Facebook Citabria page. Someone will snap it up in a heartbeat. Or better yet, post a thread here and post a link on FB to drive traffic here.

I agree! You can post all of the info you feel like typing, photos, video links, etc and then just send interested people a link to the thread. That area of the site grants full access to visitors so people don't even have to log in to see all of your classifieds listing.

I am literally petrified of Facebook. I joined - you can see my smiling face in a Cheyenne cockpit on my whatever they call the home page. But I started getting friend requests from folks I did not know, and horrible right-wing stuff from my brothers, and stopped it cold. Not at all intersted in photos of folks' breakfasts.
It is now apparently where one goes for complicated conspiracy theories - no thanks.
I will post here next week. If nobody is interested, I will look in to that link on Facebook - with trepidation.

Or if it helps traffic here, feel free to link it for me. I will pump the tires up tomorrow and get some photos.
