Hi Folks.
My name is Sean from AZ. I picked up a beautiful 7GCBC last year and really love it. One issue I have is it’s useable load is pretty small. I’ve heard that there is a carbon fiber floor mod , as well as an aluminum landing gear leg? Mod. Is that correct and if so any idea how much weight those would save? Any other good weight saving mods out there? I’m all ears! Thanks !

Gear saves 14 lbs. Kit costs six grand. Floorboards might be in the same general ratio - they are not cheap.

A better way is to look in to starter/alternator/battery options. And if money is no object, an MT prop.

Wait 'till you see how much switching to an ETX-680 will save. Expensive! We are using two of them for battery only radios. It is like the case is empty.

Carbon floorboards are about $1K. I got a good look at them during the factory visit last week.

Since when does MT have a prop for the 7GCBC? I emailed them specifically for 150hp 7 series and they responded that they don't have a prop STC for that.

I think they have them for some ACA products. There was some discussion about wood props and early type certificates - my J3 can use any wood prop. Smart folks have determined that they mean any "certificated" wood prop, but it does not say that.

We put in the carbon floor during the restore at ACA. Not sure of the weight savings over the plywood and carpet that was in there.

Limit caloric intake to just enough to keep from passing out...
Wear shorts and t shirts. Undies are optional but recommended.
Ditch the heavy tennis shoes in favor of moccasins...
Pursuant to the first suggestion, eat only kale and other greens. This will cause a build-up of methane in your system...methane is lighter than air. Resist the urge to deplete your methane supply. Every little bit helps...🙃

Resist the urge to replace the air in the tires with Hydrogen...one hot-brake issue and POOF!

All the above is said in jest. Especially the eating kale part...🤮.

If you have an oil filter, some of the best bang for the buck is to replace it by a K&P (aka Challenger) oil filter. For the Champion 48108, the replacement K&P weighs 221g less (weighed on the scale), and the oil capacity is smaller (a little less than 1/6 quart) so there's less oil weight as well. The net savings is 1.4lbs, and the cost for the STC'ed Challenger P/N is ~$300. However, the subsequent oil change costs drop precipitously as the filter itself is reusable. So the ROI is somewhere on the order of 10 oil changes, or 2.5yrs.

Smaller, lighter, cheaper. What's not to love?

Wasn't aware of these filters, certainly look interesting. Out of curiosity - do you actually change your weight and balance with these?

My mechanic is in the process of competing the 337, so we'll do whatever he says is right. Since a future owner could use a different oil filter, it might be that he decides this should be considered when calculating the W&B, but not in the empty weight.
