Several months ago I replaced my Narco mk 12D with a Val 2000. The radio works well but it left me with a gap in the panel.
I know I could have just bought something to fill the hole but decided to make my own.

I used a piece of 0.025" aluminum which was going to be too thin to take any poking, so I included some stiffening flanges. The resulting part is super light and plenty rigid enough.

Self etching primer and some rattle can black.

Bob's your uncle

I'm thinking about it and, you know, if it's 2" high it'll be a perfect spot for a site logo sticker :unsure::unsure:

Got it installed yesterday. The worst part is that it highlighted the scratches around my clean new part. Looks like Captain Hook installed it while on a bender.

if it's any consolation, it looks a lot better than a lot of other work I've seen on those panels. that area seems to encourage people to do their best Capt-Hook-on-a-bender imitations!

I like it too. My Dec has the high panel like that.

I note that the radio rack is problematic because of that diagonal tube. If only that area were 1/4" to the left . . .
