Hello everyone,
I’m currently upgrading (which turned into a restoration) a 7GCAA. One of the most exciting upgrade for me would have been a Scout gear but unfortunately one side turned out to be damaged. I’m looking for a right side gear, hoping that someone has one tucked away so I don’t have to discontinue this upgrade. Any lead helps.
Thanks!
Nikki

Hi Nikki,

Rainbow is usually reliable for used parts but he doesn't specifically list Scout gear on his site, but I'm guessing you already called him? A wanted ad in Barnstormers would be my next stop, maybe someone that is planning a swap to the aluminum gear would contact you? Last would be a call to the factory, they do repairs and upgrades so maybe they'll occasionally get a set of steel Scout gear but don't know if they sell used parts like that. Good luck though :)

is the damaged gear cracked or out of alignment? Rainbow reconditions gear legs, if it just needs to be bent back into shape then you can maybe send it there?

Scout gear may have a disadvantage, depending on your hangar height. There are folks who say that higher gear gets you a shorter takeoff roll, but I don't buy it. I have never seen any computations or test data to suggest a half degree one way or the other makes a significant difference.

I do have a pair of standard gear. Free to a needy Champ pilot who comes by my hangar.
