I have been lurking and reading for a few months. I bought the Decathalon that Bob Turner was advertising a while back. I haven't actually seen the airplane yet or even been in the same country as it yet. Bob has been helping out a lot shepherding the airplane through becoming airworthy again. I have been flying for years out of Hong Kong but have joined the other expatriates in pulling the pin on this. I will get back home in Mid April and get to work. I have the Decathalon and an L-4 Cub to do annuals on plus make some radio and ADSB decisions. I am really looking forward to doing some GA flying again. I will be in the Central Valley in California at first, not certain where we will wind up living yet but I do have hangars there and those seem to be the hardest thing to find.

Congratulations! Hope you have some great flying adventures! I’m lucky enough where I am that I could get by without ADSB pretty easily even if I didn’t qualify exempt because of the age of the airplane.

Welcome to the site and thanks for the introduction! Sorry to hear the changing nature of things has chased you out of HK. Been there a few times, glad I got to see it before China really dropped the hammer on the place.

Good luck with the move back home, the Decathlon, and that other plane! 😲

The Cub will get away from needing ADSB as it has no engine driven generator. I could putter around a bit near home without ADSB in the Decathalon but too many places I'd like to go that will require it so I will need to do something.

Who were you flying for in HK? We had a bunch of guys leave for Jet Airways back when that was all spooling up and a friend's dad was teaching in the sims at KAL for a while. I guess those kinds of gigs won't be as much of an option going forward.

I had fun while it lasted here but like many things, it's good to recognize when to move on.
Flew 747s for Cathay for the whole time I’m HK. I’ll miss the jumbo, it is truly a fine airplane. I’ll miss the good times in HK but that’s over with. Time for new adventures. I’ve also got a Pacer project and a Waco project so I’ll have plenty to keep me busy besides work and family.

You are going to be busy! The Pacer is a good airplane, especially with a 160 Lyc, but I would go for the Clipper, just because I hate steering wheels.
I have trained three pilots in UPF Wacos and one in an RNF - all without incident. But I am declining the next UPF job - really easy to fly in the back; really difficult up front. Stearman is lots easier. RNF is like a J3 - neat airplane.
