Just purchased a 1976 Scout 8 gcbc. It will be in San Diego. I have some time in a 7gcaa and some champs so this will be new to me. Looking forward to learning the plane.

Montgomery! just around the corner from you. should be here Sunday. It left South Dakota today. Had to have it delivered because of insurance minimums.

Welcome to the site Goodyear and best of luck with the new airplane! Post us some pics when you get it home!

Thanks, well the plane made it to Rapid City tonight. Some tough headwinds, he is going through Casper and then down to Salt Lake. Once he gets through the mountains it should be a down hill ride.

There was weather down that way. But the plane is stuck in Casper with a flat tailwheel and the local A&P needs parts. Snowstorm coming tomorrow so we will see if he gets out. Simple to fix but the local A&P won’t use the tube from non-aviation supplier or patch the tube. Understandable but a drag nonetheless.

Damn I love me a long cross country trip. Almost never goes according to plan.
Other than suddenly having flaps and a decent useful load I'm sure you'll be right at home in the new plane.

I have taken to having a fully mounted tire and tube, plus wrench and cotter key, under the back seat. That cut down my tailwheel flats considerably. Carrying 50-60 psi also helps.

Well plane is officially stuck in Casper. The 8:30 am part delivery was 3 hours late and the winter storm arrived with the part.

Supposed to stop snowing Wednesday. Plan C next. Plan A was screwed up 10 days ago in Wisconsin and Plan B is now in Casper. And yes you always need a Plan D. Just hope you don’t have to use it.

Plan E - how tall is an 8GCBC? Port-A-Ports just barely fit a Cessna 180 with 8:00 tires. Just in case, is the aircraft ok with 6:00x6 tires?

It went from 58 degrees in Casper Saturday to 28 today. Brrr.

Yes, we can run smaller tires. I have some 6" wheels and tires in my hangar-the tires are not on the wheels.

While searching for anyone with an 8gcbc registered in San Diego (there aren’t any) I searched the total US registrations. Total registered 8gcbc Scouts-321 in all 50 states. 180 of those are Bellanca and 141 are American Champion.

The best of the lot (unless you like inverted flight) is the 160 hp 7GAA. If you want a bush airplane, a 160 hp Super Cub is the popular choice. That may be why there are so few 8GCBCs.

Now on Plan D. Plane made it to Boise. Plan is to fly up commercialaroung the 16th, get the insurance required dual, and fly it down after the 18th of Nov.

Up in Nampa Idaho. Flying the Scout with Kurt Becker, local tailwheel, float and backcountry CFI. Great guy. If you want an intro into Idaho or flying to Alaska Kurt is a great person to go fly with. His contact info is on the Idaho Aviation website. The Scout is flying great. It has the wingtip mod and vg’s so it will fly pretty slow. Really likes the grass and dirt strips. Going out today for some short field play. Will bring the Scout to San Diego this week.
