Not too early to start talking about it. July 25th to July 31.

I had a great time. Definitely hoping for a repeat this year.

ACA being so close really lends itself to a visit. It's almost hard to avoid flying over ACA on the way. I'll bet if we got a group gathering organized, ACA would roll out the red carpet.

Would be really cool to form up in a loose group and arrive at OSH all at once.

Anyone know what the criteria is to park in the IAC area?

Odds are high I won't have an airplane available to fly out. If the factory is ready for my project by then there's a chance I can drive up in a rental car after I drop it off. Hard to say but you've definitely motivated me to not overthink it and just go for it. But, to do that, I need an airplane so I'm a definite maybe and a more likely probably not. :(

Bartman hang onto your Citabria as long as possible. I have missed every airplane I ever sold, particularly right now that I have ran out of flying airplanes.

Most important print the IAC sign and stick it in your window so that you are directed to IAC area. As far as I know: aerobatic plane, IAC membership, and preregister online then check in once on the ground. I did the B2OSH flight a couple of times. Being an official formation flight looked like an extreme amount of work and logistics for the organizers. I would have to think if we met up and arrived a few miles apart with IAC signs that would likely put us all camping in a row together. I am hopeful that this is the six months to finish my six-month project.

I'll ask around at the contests this spring. There are a few board members that usually show up, especially for Sebring.

The big type clubs have areas reserved at Oshkosh. The vintage ones with a long history get the prime spots. The Cessna 190/195's get a huge area right by the runway. Stearmans and Cubs do pretty well too. And Vans gets their own lot.

Speaking of which, the RV formation flyover is pretty impressive.

The sale of the Citabria is paying for the wings for the Super Decathlon so it's gotta go when the time comes. Not sure when that will be but probably before Osh 2022. :(

About 100 days out from Oshkosh 22. SnF yesterday reminded me of how cool it is to fly in. Definitely going to try and clear my calendar again. This year I think I will try to park at IAC HQ. Need to research where one camps when doing that. Camp Scholl?

So any plans on a gathering so we can put faces to names aka handles? I’m planning on being there till Thursday if the wife will let me.

We'll definitely try to link up. Maybe one night for dinner? We can rally up at IAC HQ. Let's discuss a few weeks prior, once everyone knows their itinerary.

I am definitely going and planning to fly up from TN. I was parked/camped out with the Shortwing Piper crowd last year in my Clipper. Will be flying the Citabria up this year. Does anyone organize a type-specific row for parking? Otherwise I plan to just go to the vintage camping area.

Some of the type specific clubs that are affiliated with an EAA organization such as Vintage Aircraft Assn or IAC have designated type parking areas. But for GAP it is functionally impossible to reserve an area because of the way they fill the areas from front to rear on arrival. From what I understand, the only way to accomplish camping as a group is a mass arrival.

Vintage is probably your best bet anyways. Right in the middle of everything. I was planning to park at the IAC area, but with the engine coming off this weekend for overhaul I would say 99% odds I am not going. If I do go, I'll probably fly up with my buddy in his Beech Twin 18 and park in the Warbird area.

Can you camp at IAC? Also - I assume you have to be there for the duration of the show (like vintage?) I had a friend camp in the vintage section - and I'm not sure if I would like that - with show attendees walking about ...

I do not believe you can camp at IAC. However, it is not too far from Camp Scholler, the main campground. Might be able to find someone at IAC HQ with a golf cart to shuttle your stuff.

You can come and go from vintage as you please as far as I know. I was in Vintage last year with my Clipper and it wasn't any different than GAC in the North or South 40 other than being a primo location close to everything.

Vintage is also directly adjacent to Camp Scholler, so if you don't like spectators wandering through your campsite you could go there. Anything to avoid the abysmal bus system.

I've never minded the spectators. I was even camped right by one of the gates and it wasn't too bad. Mostly it was people telling me all about the airplane I own as if I didn't know that. "Did you know this was the predecessor to the Pacer? Piper had to change the name after Pan-Am threatened to sue the." Gee, thanks. As an owner off a Clipper, I have noooooo idea about the history of the aircraft.

Doesn't get much better than that. I was at the far south end of the south 40. The trees behind my airplane are the southern boundary of the airfield property. That is as far at it is humanly possible to be from the airshow and still be at the airshow.

Speaking of the airshow, here was the view from my tent.

I haven't made plans yet to go. I only went 3 times: 2008, 2013, and 2018 - so it seems I'm not due to go till 2023 :-)
2018 was absolute madness to fly in - due to bad weather leading up to the show, absolutely everyone was trying to fly in on Sunday. Tried to go in twice, only to get stuck in the middle of an angry beehive circling forever at FISK around that darn lake. I thought formation flying required briefing prior - but no matter, there we were flying wingtip to wingtip, one on top of another. Still shocked that there wasn't a midair. Spent the night camped at Dodge county (on my 1st trip, I learned the lesson to avoid the official holding airports), and tried for the 3rd time Monday morning. I swore never to fly into Oshkosh again - and then - they flagged me right up to the Bonanza fly in camping (I happened to be flying a Bonanza) which was a great spot. All my frustration evaporated and my 2 boys and I had a grand old time.
