Can anyone think of a reason why I couldn't let a local powder coating shop refresh the inverted oil parts I bought for my project? I'm pretty sure they've never been used but have been mounted and moved around so many times the paint is scratched in a few spots. If I strip the paint would there be any harm in putting them through the powder coating process?

Aviat hooked me up with a set of original metal Christen labels for under $5! Booya!

Thanks,
Bart

How hot does you're powder coater bake the parts to set the color?
I guess as long as nothing gets hot enough to warp thin aluminum it would work ok.

I think it's 400 degrees, not sure about rubber parts, I hear something rolling around in the separator tank, still have to disassemble everything to see what's in there. I should take pics, right? lol

I think you should just paint them. And there is surely a ball in the separator that seals something when upside down?

Powder coating isn't the end-all for engine compartment components. My Cub rocker box covers are showing corrosion after five years, which is about the same as I got with rattle cans.

I looked into Eastwood's 2 part epoxy spray paint but they have limited colors. Their Ford blue high temp paint might work but I'll have blue inverted oil parts, which might look kinda cool under the cowl. I can do the valve covers and air cleaner for the Mustang while I'm at it! lol

Get an air compressor and a cheap harbor freight spray gun. Then you won't be limited to what comes in a rattle can.

compressor......check
cheap harbor freight spray gun.......check
place to paint..... (the warden doesn't love odd smells coming from me or the garage)

it's rattle cans or powder coating for now unfortunately until I can get a paint booth set up at the hangar although the dusty old shed isn't too bad in a pinch

Mustang, huh? I have two convertibles, both red. One is 1964 1/2; the other 1966. Great cars.

the parts I bought off the guy on Barnstormers (Peter Lagergren) are going back as there's a crack in the separator tank. no need to paint them after all but I was getting a little jazzed about having blue inverted oil parts under the cowl. 🤨
