The right wing Aeroflash "flash tube" (strobe bulb) on our 2004 SuperD died. As tempted as I was to replace the strobes with LEDs, we're still recovering from an expensive annual and engine replacement. We went cheap and just replaced the flash tube with a Whelen A427, with ACA told me was the replacement part (Aeroflash is out of business).

I now hear a static pulse over my headset when the strobes are on. Is the grounding not good enough, was installation improper (we had an A&P perform the replacement; he maintained a Scout that his dad owned), or does the Whelen A427 need a filter like a ferrite core?

All ideas gratefully received.

Can you check the connectors out at the strobe? Could be something simple.

As I understand it, I'll have to remove the wingtip to examine the flash tube connector (plug). I might do that because I intend to add a ferrite core "filter". Removing the wingtip looks pretty simple.

Be careful working with strobes, if the pack has been powered give it 10 minutes or so to bleed down the charge. While the Aero flash packs aren't as powerful as the Whelen Cometflash series they will still give you quite a jolt if it grounds (discharges) thru you!
I got popped by a Cometflash pack a few months ago (grey matter flautuance) and I swear I saw Elvis...🤯
As to your problem; I'd lay odds either the trigger wire pin (white wire) or the ground wire
pin is pushed out of the connector. Look for carbon tracks on the pins, the discolored one is the loose arcing one.

Go with LEDs. So much worth it. No squeal, lighter, less current draw, don't have to worry about PS going bad, and don't have to replace position bulbs. IMO you keep much of the price in increased resale value. A broker friend told me, "buyers love LED upgrades."
