Anyone see what happens if the pitot/static port is shortened and mounted above the wing strut?

I think a guy atta just try that

Probably illegal, but who needs an airspeed indicator anyway? I would say it doesn't make any real difference.

Wasn't concerned about legalities,

Was just curious if anyone knew if there was any significance why it was decided to stick the probes 2 1/2 feet down from the wing so it can get bend to hell by rouge jacket sleeves..... Probably the same guy that realized that the spades would split more heads if they were mounted outboard...

I'll report back if I hear of a Guy.

You could just tuft it...
Tape some yarn every 6" or so from the bottom surface of the wing to streamlined behind the pitot tube and go fly and watch the yarn. Do some slow high angle flight and see how far down the disturbed airflow goes...

Or you could just do it and report back. Super Cubs have no problem with it. How far down does it hang on a Mooney?

So it's a little bit later than spring 22.... But finally got this 7gcbc flying. Put the stock pitot on. And it lasted maybe a week before someone walked into it. It's been work hardened, and it cracked. It's made of some sort of brass tubing soldered together. Is I deconstructed it. Annealed the tubing a little with the torch, and straightened it. Cut to length, soldered one bracket back on and some white paint ... Works just as good.
