aca sell inboard spades for $600 but only for decath not citabria anyone know if hing distance is the same ?

Where did you read that? I'm under the impression theirs mount outboard and they're only for metal spar wings.

I called them, they sell outboard for none wood wing for the Citabria but sell inboard for the Decathlon I was wondering if the hing and controle rod distance was the same or diffrent

Any specific reason you only want inboard spades?

That's preventable. Our Citabria had ACA metal spars and ACA spades when we bought it. A short length of pool noodle or pipe insulation inside a sewn nylon sleeve with a remove before flight streamer attached and you have forehead protectors.

I have a wood wing and the stress on rear spar and aileron is but a frotion on the inboard compared to twisting the aileron in outboard position

I don't think the spade adds very much force to the hinge points - it just makes the aileron easier to move. I suppose it has a little drag . . .

If mounted inboard it is mounted pigybak to the controle rod and shares aleron hinge point thus releving stress on cables if on outboard the arrow dinamic forces travel down the aleron spar thrue all hing points to do the same thing thats y they only sell them for metal wing on the 7eca

I'm in agreement with Bob, unless we're missing something.

The spade acts as an aerodynamic counter balance to the aileron and reduces some of force needed to move the aileron. The outboard mounted spade will apply that force to the outboard end of the aileron, and apply some drag at that hinge point. However, I don't see where the torrion on the aileron itself would be any greater, and I don't see where any added drag farther out on the spar would be significant given the total induced drag on the wing and the parasitic drag on the leading edge.

What has ACA specifically said?

They want all wood spar wings junked. My Dec has wood spars and inboard spades. All the spades do is lessen the stick force - I have tried it both ways.

can u meshure the distance from hing bolt to rod bolt on it for me ? as the do sell in inboard for Decathlon

Sure. I may be able to do that on both the wood spar and metal spar. But I bet Ron Piercy of Rainbow could answer your question in a heartbeat.

I’m not sure they have proven the metal spars are less susceptible to stress. I believe Rainbow argues the wood are more effective with the anticipated loads.

Decathlon Wood spar bolt separation 2 3/4". Metal Spar 2.70".

Citabria - only one on the airport is metal spar (factory). Unable to get in there to measure, but it is clear that spades won't fit. There is a joggled edge and very limited clearance, and the push rod is captured inside the body of the aileron.

I don't remember what the wood spar aileron looks like on a Citabria.
