New guy with a new basket case 7AC and a BIG question. Is anyone familiar with what would be required to field approve the removal of the oleo gear and install the spring type gear on a 7AC ? I know it has been done. I have a copy of a 337 from a 1963 7GCB that was field approved in 2008. Current production drawings are available. The local FSDO says the mod is open to evaluation for a field approval per FAA AFS-300. Can anybody point me to a knowledgeable contact ???

ME; A&P/IA for last 45 yrs. Have worked on Champs, Citabrias, etc. Expertise is on the L-3 (O-58) Aeronca series. I developed the STC SA132GL for installing Champ ribs in the L-3 wing. The wish on this new basket case is to make it as close to the later model 7EC, as practical. The Wagner STC has been procured for this project. Just need to complete my little "incessant tweeking".

I don't know anyone in the Aeronca world I ask about that but in the Cessna world you might get some good advice from David Lowe at https://taildraggeraviation.com/ - he's always swapping gear on 150s (his are the most sought after Texas taildraggers) and might be willing to point you in the right direction.
