OK you nice people, let's see those pics when you're back from flying those beautiful airplanes we enjoy so much! :)

It's a beautiful New Year's Day here in North Texas. Just a few miles north of my home airport (KXBP) is a huge conglomeration of limestone quarries. This is where the rock originated for the concrete mix that made up DFW Airport and most of the Fort Worth/Dallas Metroplex. The body of water is Lake Bridgeport.IMG_0626.jpegIMG_0628.jpeg

The white gashes in the White Tank Mountains are remnants of the old Caterpillar Tractor Company proving ground.

This is the town of Hope, Arizona. After you drive through the town on US 60, you pass a sign that says, "You are now beyond Hope."

East of Quartzsite AZ:

I have heard the name. The seaplane instructors here now are Glen Smith, Bob DelValle and Kevin Heiss

No pretty pictures to share but I did complete my first flights of the year over the past weekend. Flew my trusty Super D from NJ to Fl. Beautiful weather all the way. 29 degrees F when I departed BLM Saturday morning and about 80 when I landed at APF Sunday afternoon. Every stop included a shedding of clothes as I headed south!

What was the total flight time for the trip?

I fly over those towns and wonder what the hell people do there! Is it mining or military or something else?

I enjoyed my flight a couple of weeks ago over the Salt River canyon to Grapevine (88AZ) so much, that I brought Mrs. P along this time. On the way there we flew a more southerly route past the Superstition Mountains and the huge copper mine at Globe AZ, and landed at the San Carlos Apache Airport (P13). The Apache Gold Casino is right across the highway, so we had breakfast and dropped $20 in a slot machine before heading on to Grapevine.
