Wind generator

I will check with my partner. Any idea what they are worth? Functioning when I took it off - airplane is a lot happier now.

No idea on value. Stopped making them about 15 yrs ago. Had one on my L-3B for years. Need the prop, too. See what you have and let me know. Thanks.

I have everything - regulator, prop, mount for a J4 (gear looks a lot like the early Champ; I will check the bolt pattern). I am getting 25 starts per charge without the generator - with it installed I had to do a couple of fast downwinds to get it charged up enough for the next start. Generator puts out almost 15 volts at 90 mph, but is a bit sluggish at 60.

Happy to sell it to you, but it sounds like you need to sell the Champ and get a 7ECA with alternator and toe brakes. A superb airplane, and lots cheaper than converting the 7AC.

I'd love to have a 7GCAA or a 7GCBC. Unfortunately .... I'm legally stuck in light sport category. Let's standby on your generator. I may have found a new / never used one. I'll let you know. Thanks.

Hey bob , asking for a friend , you still have wind generator, my friend got a champ .. has wing tanks but no radios so I think because of the wing tanks … that documentation (7ec?) allows one to add the fan . Am I correct . I’m a piper guy for the moment and if I can find the generator and radios and all the stuff to get it working coms and charging system.. I will become 25% owner .. and will get to 50% when I install an ac in my friends house.. horse tradin for planes

I can check with my partner. Do review why I took it off. Lots more reliable in our environment without a wind generator.

You would have to get a field approval or an STC. Come by and I will show you what we have done.

But yeah -we still have it.

20 miles north of you - Gibbs Field, spot 1J. I am there every day 12:30 - 4:30. World's busiest GA Airport. We cannot afford the risk of a wind generator approach - we need reliable communications.

At SDM I would almost rather be on light gun signals. I always expect harassment.

It seems to be the culture. There is a new guy up there who seems nice.

Troglodyte here - I don't text or carry a cell phone. Make me an offer I can submit to my partner.

I really need to talk you out of this - when we had it installed we charged the battery after each flight. Now I chsrge the batteries every two months. We get 70 starts out of an Odyssey battery, and use smaller motorcycle batteries for the radio. those get charged once every four tach hours. We have dpdt switches in all the airplanes that allow use of the starter battery for the radio.

I took one Cub to Trinity Center and back without charging anything but the GPS.

Well it’s not for me it’s for my friend Stu Strebig he bought a champ last month and i personally think just a batt connected to radios is not needing a generator , how but meeting kmyf at machado sat a day and time of your liking and I can bring Stu and we can haggle a price . But to start the party how bout 700.00 to start the party ..

ok. I did not check with my partner yet, but I am sure he will go for that.

I am due south of the Casa - gate 8 on Gibbs drive - hangars on both sides. Sometime sround 4 Sundays we may even buy you a beer in the hangar to the west of the gate. At that time of day Sundays the cub is outside - hard to miss.

ok.
Got it all organized today - Generator, prop, bracket, regulator. I will dig out the paperwork before Sunday.

Bracket fits J4 and J3 Piper - but the champ bolt pattern is wider. Plenty of room for two adapter plates. Easy machining.

Well, I must have missed you. I was only gone a couple times for 20 minutes or so each. Lots of folks hanging around from about 2:30 on.
