Citabria Wing tip rib

It should have sufficient info for comparing the difference between the 4-1030 and the 5-143 tip ribs. I want to see if a 5-143 tip rib could be easily modified to a 4-1030. The reason being to save a few bucks due to the high cost of the 4-1030.

The same method applied when I modified 7-445 butt ribs to 7-791 butt ribs (for fuel tanks) by installing doublers 2-945. Saved $150. To do the butt rib mod, the 7-445 and 7-791 drawings were aquired from the Aeronca Museum website. No such luck with the 4-1030 drawing.

The 5-143 rib is the standard Aeronca / Citabria wood spar tip rib. The 4-1030 rib is also a wood spar Citabria rib, used to mount the fiberglass wing tip. From photos, it appears that the 4-1030 rib is a modified 5-143 containing 1.5" width sheet metal strips along the top and bottom cap strips of the rib, along with a modified rib trailing edge. The fiberglass wing tip is attached to those sheet metal strips. Champion fiberglass wing tip conversion kit #196 calls for the 4-1030 rib. The Citabria parts manuals, up to 1994, also specify the 4-1030 rib.
