I haven't found any recent discussion on this topic and was hoping to find anyone's experience with this setup. In the past I have used Foreflight (like most of the rest of the world) but with WingX offering a free subscription to military/CFI's, I am making the switch. I have held out on acquiring ads-b (in) until now but just ordered a Stratus 3 unit to run with WingX. Does anyone have this setup?

The Stratus 3 is certainly not the most economical of options but seems to be the only one that will pair with WingX and display AHRS on an iPad. I have read older posts on here describing the latency producing quite a lag in display performance and was curious if that has been improved upon. I will soon see!

Had not heard of WingX. Looks like a nice app.

ADS-B In is a game changer, especially the NEXRAD overlay. Once you fly with it, you will wonder how you ever did without it. Latency is up to 15 minutes based on radar updates, but that is fine as long as you understand what you are looking at it.

Traffic is very useful too, though of course limited by compliance of other aircraft.

Portable AHRS on mobile devices is wildly overrated, IMO. Just too many possible points of failure to rely on it as anything other than a parlor trick. Hardwire an AHI and be done with it.

Even more than NEXRAD I find that, day to day, i really have become dependent on traffic. It’s great for making sure the practice areas are clear and very helpful in returning to a pattern busy with both closed-pattern training and jets on 10 mile finals..!
