Toying with painting rudder as an homage to WW2 AAF trainers. Wife hates it. I hate groovy 70's shooting stars from Wonder Woman more. Thoughts on mockup below?

I can manage my own lack of judgement and failure to adhere to resolutions. What I need help with is my lack of ability to assess whether a color scheme is Fugly. :ROFLMAO:

Your wife is (as always) correct...
That would be FUGLY. note all caps. As in I meant to shout it...

And what was wrong with the 1970's Wonder Woman? 🤨 I watched every show just to watch the Eagle flap it's wings.

if it doesn't help you to score better flying a sequence, save it for when you do the whole shebang later on, imho

The stripes would have to be much fatter. And if you're serious about a hat tip to WW II planes there are plenty of L-16 paint schemes to choose from. Later L-16s were the first place we saw the squared off Citabria rudder and rear side windows.

You're right, I was thinking it was 13 red and 13 white, but it's actually 7 red plus 6 white for 13 total stripes.

Regardless, I think at this point we have established that red is one color too many. I will probably paint the tail in solid yellow. Might get creative and try to continue the side striping pattern in some manner, but art is not my strong suit. Maybe yellow surfaces with 6 inch white tips separated by one or two blue stripes.

Have vowed not to do anything until next fall, so this is just brainstorming. Gonna focus on flying for about 6 months.

who wants to help sexy up the drab green flying tigers scheme to work on a Decathlon? accepting ideas/donations of IP. :)

Ed, you could have opened up an enormous can of worms if you pulled the fabric. great job keeping it moving forward and getting it done. :yesss:

God that reminds me of the paint job on The Albanian Airshow team (based here in the 90's) Pigg Specials (part MIG part Pitts)...
Funniest airshow gang ever...
Ugliest airplanes too...

THAT is the last project you have to do before you get back to flying

I did that graphic in 2004. I had just bought 1/4 share of the plane. I sent the pictures to the aircraft owner, who was 80 years old. He thought the pics were real. He liked it, and was disappointed when I explained what photoshop was.

these guys? how do you do comedy with two Pitts S2's?

Well...
That pic would be labeled " welded wing formation " for the Albanians.
Pat Peavy and John David Crow were, respectively, General Ifititchesscratchit and wingman Corporal Ohyawebadwebad...colorful commentary was by one Major Sonoffavitch.
In reality two very gifted pilots with an airshow routine that was funny as hell.
