There used to be a repair that an old timey shop here used to have the approval for such. I've watched him do the repair. He used resorcinol glue and a syringe to inject into the crack, then clamp until cured, and sand smooth. Then use resorcinol to glue up the plywood doublers. It was approved for so long as the crack did not go past the first hole for the wing root bracket.
My plane had such repairs on two of the spars. Done some 25 years prior to me replacing them for Milman's. Those repairs were still solid and going strong.
The FAA took away his approval for the repair sometime in the late 90s or early 2ks. He blamed it on ACA, said they came after him hard.
