No room in the panel and don't want to change or redo instrument panel. What are the best mounting options for a Garmin GTX 320A either under the left side of the panel or on the left cockpit side panel under the throttle quadrant. Photos and any structural help appreciated. I'm installing a Tailbeacon at the same time. Thanks. lg

Thanks Bob. Do you have any photos of the structural pieces? Is it hanging or is there a backplate behind the masonite? Any detail will help. lg

Hanging there. Can be considered portable. We actually started out with my portable setup, which I use for ferry flights in airplanes with handhelds (ugh). We could easily have screwed it to the upholstery or that wood strip - we found no need.

I have one of those Garmin GTXs around here - I will try to remember to compare it in size and weight to the GTR-200.

For an early Champ, this is really the only place for a radio. Not sure I would want a transponder, but if you have to have one it could go between your feet under the gas tank.

Some of us are getting old - Trig-size radios are hard to read in comparison, and the Beckers were always going back to Florida for repair.

It’s the ROTOR ACT. But after giving it a closer read, I think I was wrong in my earlier post. But the ROTOR ACT definitely has some interesting stuff in it.

I just glanced at it - it may mean that IF you are required to have ADS- B out, you will be required to have "in" as well. For sure the military will not be running around on training flights without ADS-B. I can see that.

I suspect that sooner or later your original assumption will come true. Avionics are changing so rapidly that maybe you should wait as long as possible and not have double expense. None of my radios are supported, and they are light years ahead of the old KX 170s I used to rely on.

Unless you have to operate in class B, I would wait.

Skylark your airport or your favorite Buick?

The ROTOR act failed in the House by one vote after the Pentagon came out against it.

Yesterday, the House passed the ALERT act by a 396-10 vote.

I tried to read it (H.R. 7613) on www.congress.gov but didn't have enough patience to translate the legalese into something understandable. Basically, my guess is that it will require ADSB-In for operations near busy airports and include some military aircraft.
