1974 GCBC Restoration with Milman Spars

Looking Great! Looks like everyone had the same idea! lol....keeping those guys at Millman busy!

Hi @Bartman,

I have been remiss in updating this thread. Like really bad.

Progress was very slow and in fits and bursts. In June of 2020 I quit my job and decided I'd focus more on the Citabria until I finished it. A lot of other things have competed for attention, but progress has been steady once I finished a lengthy panel upgrade in Julie's Discus A glider.

In late summer I finally moved on to fabric work. I started with a little airfoil segment I built to practice on. Then moved on to the flaps and ailerons. Finally finishing those up in October and starting the left wing. I finished the fabric work on the left wing just before the end of the year and I'm currently working on the right wing and I just shrunk the bottom surface fabric yesterday.

Hopefully the right wing will go a little faster and I'll finish it early in February. Then it will be time to get everything lined up to paint. My hope is to have the airplane flying in Q2 2021.

Looking good I’m gonna take your advice and get back on the project. I’ve been waiting on the weather and a headliner, whichever one gets hear first will start me back up.

Very exciting when a project starts to get fabric. Nice work Morgan and great inspiration to keep the rest of us going. :)

Good progress this week. Finished top and bottom cloth install through all six passes with the iron up to max temp.

The right wing is now ready for inspection rings and additional reinforcement patches prior to the start of tape for under the rivets.

Still a lot of work remaining on the wing, but progress is definitely a bit faster than the first wing when every step was a discovery.

I have finished all the fabric work on the wings and control surfaces. Lots of hours of cleanup to get rid of any little glue balls or thick spots. Just time with an eraser and the detail iron making sure everything is secure and clean and I can't feel any excess bits of glue or fod. I still need to detail clean the left wing and burn some drain holes, but I am getting close to paint time. Waiting on warmer weather for that. Even in mild Central Coast California it's too cold for waterborne paint. Still have some more things to get done for the spray booth as well as cleaning and stripping some additional metal parts. Seems endless, but the list is getting shorter.
