Citabria Annual Inspection Cost

Take a look at this for the 8KCAB
Note: I do not have a copy of the Service Manual.
Ah, there it is. So we have 2 required inspections.

However, the aileron bracket was added in 2017. So, if I owned a 2016 or older, I legally would not have to comply, because it would not be in the revision of the manual that was current at the birth date of my (hypothetical) 8KCAB. This is where the AD system comes in play. If the manufacture or FAA believes this aileron bracket is a safety of flight issue, they can, and will start the AD process to make it mandatory for older aircraft.

But the lift strut brackets are spelled out in the TCDS.
I agree, it should have been an AD against that p/n but that is not the way it was handled.
Just another thing that we have to consider every time we work/annual an aircraft.

This is the quote what from Veyron earlier this year for the 7 series airplanes.

Citabria Airframe Library
$656.00
SKU: B413

Pricing is good for 1-year subscription and 1-user license.

When I looked the most current maintenance manual was the very same 1994 and newer that’s floating around

Reading your posts, y'all are awesome

has the Adlog aircraft records system gone out of fashion?

thanks

AdLog is a system for the owner.
The A&P/IA is still responsible for assuring compliance and airworthiness.
Some services claim to meet all FAA requirements for access to current Regulatory Data.

The only A.D. I can find that reference's the 1000 hour metal spar strut attach fitting inspection is 96-18-02 which replaced 96-03-1. It references and mandates SL-415 which calls out the replacement of metal spar strut attach fittings that were originally installed in ACA metal spar wings and the 1000 hour inspection of the newly designed strut attach fitting's. Also of note ACA no longer has SL-415 listed on their web site which someone may have already mentioned here. I agree this mandatory inspection has no business being buried in the TCDS only. It should be a stand alone A.D. referencing other applicable data. Tangogawd if you can please give us a read back when you speak to your PMI. Pretty crazy stuff. Thanks to all for the info here. Confirms for me why this site is so important.

I hated Adlog. Loose leaf pages - easy to pull out. And discard. Different sections - a mechanic's nightmare.

I convert my airplanes to good old bound logbooks, each of which has a dedicated section for an AD list and one for alterations. I put up with a loose AD sheet, but they are entered in the log with dates of compliance.

Edit: Once in a while folks agree with me - thanks! Looking forward to that ASI opinion, but ASI opinions do not have much weight. We need a letter from FAA legal. They do that . . .

Ref Note 3 of TCDS
FAA Order 8620.2B
10. TCDS Notes. TCDS notes are intended primarily to provide information on the various
requirements for issuing an Airworthiness Certificate as well as the type and location of various
technical documents used to operate and maintain the product. Some OEMs have placed
mandatory language such as “shall,” “must,” and “will” on their TCDS that imply that
compliance with TCDS notes is mandatory. However, in the absence of regulatory language or
an AD that makes such TCDS notes mandatory, compliance with such notes is not mandatory.

Last one was about 1700, but we also 337ed a T3 tailwheel

This was the planes first annual, and it was recently fully restored, so he went over EVERYTHING, found some non safeties nuts, and a few other minor things too, plus I default to overkill

Thanks, Sully. That note will go in my Citabria file.

Sometimes if you dig hard enough you find these gems.

Now, does anybody remember the Order that specified that a request for a field approval had to be handled in a "reasonable time?"
My latest was received, acknowledged, and then either lost or trashed. Have heard nothing for three months. I always remind them monthly.

$1500 in the SF Bay Area based on $160/hr. That is just the inspection. Discrepancies, service letters, cleaning the plugs, etc. are extra. Out the door usually around $3000 and 10 days.

Just had my first annual on my 1995 Decathlon, in Oregon at S39. The inspection was $1400, plus another $500 or so in fluids and misc expendables. Took about a week, plus a few days on either end where I was waiting for the weather to cooperate so I could fly in and out. The mechanic seemed pretty pleased, and said that my plane was very "clean". He was easy to work with and enthusiastic. He's also got experience with the type, and maintains several other aerobatic aircraft based in Bend. I'm going back!

IMHO if this was a complete annual and everything was covered well, paper work all in order and no AD's left uncovered then you better give the guy a bonus and make sure you are on his schedule now for your next annual.

I know, right? I feel like a found a new friend! He also says he knows how to do the aluminum landing gear upgrade, so I'm going to get a price from him to do that as well.
