That's the kind of crack I have encountered. I suspect the compression failures are not as common as these. I have heard folks say a compression crack always happens when the wingtip hits the ground, but as you can see, no compression failure here.
Sometimes a glue line can be mistaken for a crack - is that a glue line above the crack, or another crack?

Laminated spars so it’s a glue line
