8KCAB Engine makes popping noise on final

I stand corrected. Did some wheel landings at 70 yesterday and today. Definitely tail lower than what I'm used to for a wheel landing (passenger thought it we did a 3-point), but they were fine.

I prefer and do most landings in a tail low wheel landing, less energy to dissipate on the ground. You can push the tail up once the mains get on the ground, lowering AOA, therefore lift, and really get on the brakes if you have to.

Or just let the tail settle to the ground and lock it in.

Lowers tail wheel shimmy issues as well

I agree with that - about 90% of my Decathlon landings are done as tail low wheel landings - the tailwheel and at least one main touch down simultaneously about 5 mph above stall. Gently, and it won't shimmy.

I want to re-check the attitude at 70 - I simply do not remember a nose high attitude. At 60, yes.

What is the RPM rise when you move the mixture to idle cutoff when shutting down? It should be in the neighborhood of 25-50 RPM rise. If no rise the idle mixture may be lean and may cause the popping when the throttle is closed.
