How many G's can a manifold pressure gauge withstand

Problem solved for now. My IA had a spare. That buys me time to get an overhaul or exchange.

I note that mine is 2 1/4, installed per "hiperbipe." Also I have a 2 1/4 G meter in the Cub. Superfluous, but really easy to read. It was surplus in 1962 (along with a clock), and failed shortly thereafter. I replaced the string with some fish line, and it has worked fine for the last 3,000 hours.

I wear glasses, and need cheaters for closeup - but have no problems seeing the 2 1/4" gauges with my 1.75 sunglasses.
 
Other than comparing static reading to field pressure, is there any other method to determine proper operation of an MP gauge?
