I agree. If it was up to me primary training would be in a Citabria. Or a Pacer of course.... I may be a bit biased toward Shortwing Pipers
 
Well, me too. But I think the optimum initial trainer is a J3 Cub. I do like the Clipper and the 160 Pacer, but for primary the Cub is hands-down better.

We can train a pilot in the J3 and he/she can handle a Super Cub or Citabria without further ado. The same is not true the other way around.

I personally think the armed forces should still use the Stearman for the first 20 hours. Even the helicopter transitions would be easier.
