Citabria Lower Cowl Install 7KCAB

Bartman,

Lower Cowl off the Scout.

Condition? Depends on what side you look from :-) I thought it was a straight forward proposition for a talented fiberglass repairer. The two quotes I have so far makes buying new the better alternative. I might have to get my hands itchy.

well, I guess it's salvageable if it were the last vented lower cowl on earth! would you happen to know what the deal is with that little vented area? Does that aid airflow over the oil cooler for the -360 engines?

Good question, I'm not sure but I don't think so.

The question that always pops up, is it the same size as the non vented Citabria Cowl. Anyone?

Thanks...

I believe the newer cowls on the Denali are aluminum and non vented.

Do you have the clamp on the cowl or the intake box? Mine was clamped to the intake box when I got it, but Dale Gauger confirmed that was backwards. When I clamped the tube to the cowl, it slid easily on to the intake box. I remove the air filter bracket from the cowl and reach in with my hand to guide the tube. Adds maybe 5 minutes to the process.

Trimming the tube to length helps. If too long, it will compress like a bellows. Hang the lower cowl on the aircraft without the tube and measure the gap between the cowl and intake box. On mine it was less than 1/2".

I wouldn't stress too much about preserving the tube. It is a $20 part, and easy to come by. Most folks keep a couple on hand, and replace every year or two. Here is what mine looked like when I got the plane this summer.

Hello, I have a 7EC and need to replace tube you posted about several years ago. My question is how is it listed on the ACS website. Thanks

I just realized you used the Champion website to order your flexible tubing. Sorry to waste your time. I'll give them a call. Thanks
