Rear Cabin Heat in 7ECA Citabria

This is the factory version:View attachment 4948
Howdy,

Hmmmmmm. Looks like a Ant Trap we put around the house. I did see one that was close to that if not exact somewhere but I can not remember who's hangar it was in. Had a box of old parts kicking around. They might of been fitted to other aircraft as well? I will go looking and calling around. My bird definately had rear heat installed at one time from what I can tell, (Holes, Build Sheet, Etc.)

Thanks for the quick reply and picture. I know where to proceed now.

Won't my wife be happy !!!

Howdy,

I hate to be a bother, but what is the dimensions of the floor heater vent. I think I know where one is, but need to know if it is the correct one? I think the one I know about is larger? 4 inch round top and flange is 4 inch diameter and only 1-1/4 inch high.

That sounds about right. I’m out of town and won’t be able to measure until next week.

I finally made it back to the hangar and measured my "ant trap". It is 4 1/2" in diameter (not including the flange) and 1 1/4" high.

Howdy,

Thanks for that info. I need to track down these parts. I will have to get some 2 inch Scat, the original valve, and the "Ant Trap".

Project for this summer. Going to get a new Wt/Bal soon, so would like to have this installed before I do that. There is a IA/AP mechanic that has a set of aircraft scales. He charges $100.00 but I think this being a new to me aircraft that it is money well spent.

Thanks again.

Howdy gain,

Interesting Fact (I Think),...... If something was installed in an aircraft as original equipment (N1234 for example, S/N 12345), then removed for whatever reason, and no log entry what so ever was made and no Wt/Balance info recalculated, then technically the aircraft is "Unairworthy" till proper documentation in made in the logs, or removed parts are reinstalled.

So, to make a long story short, one can reinstall any missing parts (Original as specified on build sheet) which will make it back to original and all should be fine, since no mention anywhere of removal. At least that is what I have been told.

Is this information correct? Anyone have any input on this.

Info I received was a conversation from a previous FAA inspector, who wish's to go unnamed. He's been retired many, many years and his memory is failing, and in a nursing home. But he loves talking about airplanes and the old days.

In a practical sense, yes. Who would know? But legally you make a log entry every time you do any maintenance work. Try this: Noted missing part 2345. Reinstalled and inspected; conforms to data on 337 dated ---.

Howdy,

But if it was originally on the Build Sheet from Bellanca, when it was built, there is no #337 form. Correct?

Am I correct on this? I will try contacting ACA next week and see if they have archives of original Build Sheets from Bellanca. I do have a copy of the original with my paperwork. Maybe even the FAA?

Correct. Then all you do is enter "part #xxx found missing. Replaced per factory specifications.

What kind of part are we talking about?

i have a firewall valve I'd sell if you're interested Cowboy
Bartman,

Yes, I am interested and my wife is too! Maybe I can get her to cough up the cash for one? Yea, Right !!!!!

Give me a quote, and thanks for all you input this past year. I can be a real pain in the butt with all my questions.

Just looked at the AFM equipment list for my 78 Decathlon. Rear Seat Heater is listed as optional equipment, not required, with weight of 2.25 lb and arm of -6.55 in. Seems like that should be pretty easy for an A&P to pencil whip.

I wouldn't even note it was removed from the aircraft...

"... removed, repaired, reinstalled rear cabin heat duct system. New cable installed. New SCAT installed. Outlet can cleaned and painted. Ops check good."

Howdy Again,

I attached the original "Build Sheet" from Bellanca for my aircraft dated 4-15-72. It clearly has the "Rear Seat Heater" checked off, and I can not find anywhere in the logs (have all logs from date of Manufacturing) where the rear heater has been touched.

I think this should cover any legal situation that may arise.

There are some things that were moved. I am getting a new Weight and Balance performed on my bird in May or June to get an exact Weight and Balance.

Such things have been removed or modified, like 39 gal fuel tanks now installed, Tires are 8:50-6 4ply, added ADS-B, O.A.T. gauge not installed, new compliant ELT installed, Tow hitch was removed sometime in it's life, no strobes anymore, no speaker, Narco Radio replacd, and now have Transponder installed, and some other stuff either installed or removed.

Will be interesting to see what it weighs now.

Hmmmmmmm,.... Am I missing anything?
