Sight Gauges

Ed,

Thanks for the follow up. For now I've put strips of electrical tape on my side window but they're so close to me when I turn my head I have to close one eye so I don't see double! lol An indicator farther out on the wing would be helpful but $600? They're clamped on so we can technically make our own, no?

I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a sight gauge from Greg Koontz. Really not possible to fly a competitive cuban without one, and I have a contest coming up in November.

Per previous discussion, it is adjustable fore and aft as well as up and down.

Mine remains the original stainless and I find that quite visible. Maybe black would even be better? Don’t know, I have only flown the Decathlon with stainless finish.

After a couple of aggressive practice sessions working on Cuban 8's and Humpty Bumps, I've decided to come up with some kind of color scheme to differentiate the square from diagonal members. Thinking blue vertical and horizontal, with yellow 45's. Or possibly white horizontal, blue vertical, and yellow diagonal. After 15 or so maneuvers, I was having a real hard time differentiating what was what, especially when pulling thru vertical for the key point (30 degrees past vertical).

Maybe flourescent orange for the cardinal orientations of horizontal and vertical?

That would be highly visible, but also fugly on a yellow and blue airplane. 🤣
I've got a can of yellow that is a reasonably close match to the federal yellow on my airplane. Will probably go with that as it a short term solution.

Will dope stick to metal, or to primer? Butyrate dope is just lacquer paint with plasticizers.

if it is stainless i'd rough it up and use primer.

did you fly with it on there yet? did it make a difference?
