7GCBC Wings ??

There is also a fix that uses ring shanked nails to replace the factory ones.... but ACA does not recommend them. Too hard to remove if you need to.

My wings had ring shank nails and I agree they are next to impossible to get out without damaging the rib flange or leaving a gaping hole in the spar where the nail was. A heating iron applied to the heads of the nails made removal a lot easier but I'd guess my old wood spars are not usable after having the nails pulled.

Are those wings going to be sold by the insurance company yet? I looked on the salvage site you listed, but they aren't shown there. I am interested in them since I am building an Experimental amateur built Talon (Decathlon copy), but I plan to go with the 7GCBC wings for a back country bush plane using a 180 HP AEIO-360 Lycoming, cowling, & Hartzell CS prop I got from a salvaged Super Decathlon.

please tell me you've already started a build thread here and plan to post a lot of photos! please! lol

I just joined, but yes I will eventually post pictures of my build. I've already bought the spar blanks & leading edge skins from Millman to rebuild the wings with, and I also plan to modify the OEM 7GCBC flaps to create single slotted fowler flaps out of them by using Van's RV10/14 flap hinges and brackets (this should be good for about an additional 3 mph lower stall speed). In addition, I am moving the ailerons out 6-1/4" to the outer most full size rib on the 7GCBC wings and installing Bellanca Scout wing tips on them (same as how the new ACA Scout is done), and then lengthening the OEM flaps from 83" long to 92" long (this will also reduce the stall about another 1 mph). Addition mods I will make is to install two 18 gallon tanks in each wing...copying the same way that is done on Scouts with the 72 gal option...except for keeping them isolated with switching valves and separate vent systems. The entire plane will be covered with the Oratex fabric system which reduces the covered weight about 40 lbs since no paint is required (it comes colored already, and is very simple to patch repair when required).

The goal is to create a long range bush plane that is capable of a 40 mph stall speed and a 155-160 mph cruise speed, and that is still capable of mild aerobatics!

Anyway, Mjk1951 what about those wings you have?

About them wings...... I spoke with the adjuster from Ole Republic Aerospace... It's a NOGO on selling me the wings outright..,they will have to go through the salvage/auction process.... I have no clue on when they will be posted.... They have been in my hangar since mid-November.. I see on Barnstormers an ad for 7GCBC wings .... they appear to be wood spars...

I've already talked to the guy selling those 7GCBC wings. They don't come with ailerons and flaps and are thus way overpriced...I can get a set from Ron Piercy @ Rainbow for $4000. I already have two sets of Decathlon wings I got with the Super D project I bought (which are for sell to anyone that needs a set), and I also have a set of good 7KCAB wings. Ron @ Rainbow will trade some of the 7GCBC ribs for the 7KCAB ribs I have plus sell me the other items required to convert the 7KCAB wings to 7GCBC wings (along with me changing out the spars to the Millman spars), but I still have to buy a set of flaps to finish the conversion. That is why I would prefer to purchase a good set of salvage 7GCBC wings for my project, and would then sell the good 7KCAB wings off.

My wing saga continues... A fire destroyed my 7GCBC in November...everything except the wings...It appears that the insurance company's lawyers decided that paying me the full stated hull insurance amount and then taking possession of the wings (which I paid to have reworked) constituted double jeopardy... Ergo I now have a nice set of 7GCBC wings... I posted this ad on Barnstormers...If anyone here is interested we can talk about the pricing..

Mjk1951,
I see your 7GCBC wings were taken off Barnstormers pretty quick after you listed them, so did they sell for the $8500 so fast?

By the way, I just bought a set of '77 model 7GCBC wings with cracked spars for $500 off Barnstormers. I am going to use all of the parts out of them (except for the spars) for the custom wing build on my project.
