ACA aerothane cracking on wings

Just thought I would send an update on my gcbc rebuild for the guys that have messaged me about possibly buying my plane after it’s completed.. I’ve had a little slow down, Lowell has done a beautiful job on the wings. Even though the flaps and aileron fabric was nice condition, it was old so I decided to recover them as well so the plane will be 100% new skin. When we removed the skins, I discovered on the left aileron, a short crack developed in the main spar in the center hinge area. Then on the right aileron we discovered there was a small section of what would appear as hangar rash repair from backing the plane into something solid… so I have 2 new ailerons on order from Chad ACA which are weeks away. Spray season is coming upon us so I’ll be in the 602 and the project will drag along slowly through the summer months… was hoping to be flying the gcbc by the end of May but didn’t work out.

My 2002 factory new aerothane covered wings for my gcbc that have never spent a night out of a hangar are cracking bad and the tapes are lifting all over. ACA never pinked the tapes, I’m told this is part of the problem along with just poor workmanship from pumping out wings steady on a program to get rid of wooden spar wings. I’m also told they used a paint that has no flex to it. I guess they made everything shiny to sell and didn’t care after it left the factory.
The left wing is especially bad, it’s like the left and right wing were done in different factory’s.
Does anyone know anyone in northern end of MN or ND that might recover these wings with aerothane stits PF? I’m told with this shiny aerothane finish that just repairing is basically impossible even though the fabric itself is like new underneath.
Hello everyone.. for anyone that might have been interested in my 7GCBC.. notice it’s a year old my last post lol… I have been screwed around so badly on timing of some stuff, big screw ups with my new panel, and 4 months to hear a reply from ACA etc, I finally have the new ACA panel and all the G3X Garmin goodies to get installed… and I had a real great guy redo wings totally along with found some old hangar rash on the ailerons when uncovered … so also new ailerons now…
Finally I can get putting this project ready for the air !! How painful, I figured 16 month project with hold ups but it’s more like 30 !

Was there an increase to gross weight when wood spar wings were changed out for the new aluminum ones? I thought I was told that a long time ago? Maybe it was for aluminum gear ? Which I didn’t do.

Oof, a 02 is young for that

But one of the reasons that high gloss doesn’t age well with fabric planes

Mmmm…thought I would call Chad at ACA, there was an increase in MTOW that should have been documented when the new wings were installed years ago… he is sending me doc’s. I’m certainly not concerned about having an increase for my flying but a future buyer may want.
