Hi all,

A few loose nails were found so I’m replacing them with the Rainbow STC using screws but there is no access for the rib outboard of the strut attach point. The finish has been removed to silver, the original finish is dope, what is the easiest path forward to attach the plastic ring and then the cover fabric?

Thanks!

Just finished repainting a set of cub wings that was ceconite dope. Used superflight 7 and came out great. Top coat in Aerothane . We had many inspection holes and other large repair patches to apply.

I'll let you know in 7 years how they held up!

I think Stewart’s sticks to the silver coat so I could be sticking and priming as soon as I can get materials but figured maybe dope is easier to work with when you already have dope assemblies

Take it down to clear dope.
Use your favorite adhesive. (Super Seam, Ekobond)
Brush the inspection plate patch with clear (2 coats min)
Silver then color dope.

I have not had good luck building up dope so that it matches the original buildup. I've had much better luck with superflight. Their primer is kinda like a high build primer to then sand down nicely.

Taking it down to fabric, especially where the ring and inner fabric goes would probably give you the best bond.
