8KCAB Gear Strut Failure

Metal spar wings installed in the 90s. They want $15k!? to recover the wings, so they’ll be keeping their existing covering.

I don't think you will be too deep in the hole on total investment then. At least you wouldn't have to drop 40k on new wings like I will one day.

How much are they charging to recover the fuselage? I am due for that, and starting to think about options.

Did you have ACA pull the engine and ship it to Zephyr? I am based about 10 miles from Zephyrhills, so am wondering about logistics options when it is my turn.
 
Zero doubt in my mind that many other shops would be cheaper than the factory. BUT the factory has the actual welding jigs, and god knows this plane has seen enough maintenance hatchet jobs in its life.

The estimate shows $7200 for the recover and paint, but there is also some prep (along with other repairs) listed at $5850.

I actually had the engine pulled by the shop where the accident happened and sent to my engine shop here in Texas. His name is Bob Galoris at Lakeview Aviation but I doubt you can find him online.
 
You are the man! Good one for restoring an old one. You are obviously on the other side of the “rational” financial decision. None of us would be flying anything if we had to justify the cost. But there are obviously limits for each of us. Just fly the pants off it once it’s done.
